Pau is a university town that sits high up in a valley. Le Gave de Pau, a wide mountain river, sweeps in the bottom of the valley below. It can turn into a raging torrent when the snow melts off the Pyrenees. It was one of those places where we arrived with no expectations. What we came across was a peaceful town with amazing history. The beautiful architecture and gorgeous views were perfect for a snapping spree with my camera.
The Chateau de Pau.
“Pau has the world’s most beautiful view of the earth just as Naples has the most beautiful view of the sea,” said French poet Alphonse de Lamartine. I probably wouldn’t go that far, but the view from the chateau is one to behold.
It does look quite majestic.
Well, King Henry IV of France did live there, so I suppose it is living up to expectations! Thanks for commenting 🙂
